Northern and North-Central Vietnam are bracing for impact, with two potential typhoons expected to strike in a matter of days. The unusual scenario has raised serious concerns about the substantial damage these severe weather phenomena could cause.

The Vietnamese National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting announced that Typhoon Ragasa, which recently affected Taiwan and Hong Kong, is moving towards Vietnam's coastline and is expected to reach it on September 25. Although it may weaken to a tropical storm upon landfall, forecasts warn of heavy rainfall, strong winds, and widespread flooding along the coast from Quang Ninh Province to Nghe An Province.

Furthermore, another tropical storm, Boaloi (Opong), is predicted to reach Vietnam on September 29 and could strengthen into another typhoon. This would translate to two consecutive storms, each with a significant risk of prolonged flooding, mudslides, and severe transportation disruptions.

U.S. Warning

The U.S. Embassy in Hanoi has issued a special alert to its citizens in Vietnam, urging them to prepare for the storms. The notice warned of flash floods, mudslides, and urban flooding, particularly in mountainous and low-lying areas.

The American embassy recommends monitoring weather reports, following local authorities' instructions, and avoiding walking or driving in flooded areas.

Guidelines for Residents and Travelers

- Follow forecasts and official announcements.

- Avoid areas prone to flooding and landslides.

- Do not cross flooded roads on foot or by vehicle.

- Stay updated via the U.S. Embassy's websites, travel.state.gov, and social media channels.

Additionally, the U.S. Embassy notes that Vietnam's authorities are preparing emergency centers in the regions expected to be affected, but warns that weather conditions may worsen rapidly.
