The European ultra-low-cost airline, which describes itself as the “fastest” on the continent, Wizz Air, has announced that it has “officially flown over 50 million passengers” to and from Romania’s capital, Bucharest. The milestone was reached on September 30, marking 18 years of presence in the country.
“We’ve grown alongside Romania’s capital and today, Bucharest is home to our largest base, with the most WIZZ aircraft.”, said the company in an X announcement.
“To mark the occasion, we surprised our 50 millionth passenger with a €200 WIZZ voucher on the tarmac.”
The milestone follows the airline’s most significant expansion of its network from Romania, with 13 brand new routes from Bucharest ready for launch this winter. Wizz is also preparing to add an additional aircraft to its Băneasa Airport base this autumn and thus unlock “even more flights to destinations in Italy, Germany, Belgium, France, and Greece.”
Anastasia Novak, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air: “Reaching 50 million passengers in Bucharest is a significant milestone that reflects both Wizz Air’s growth and the trust shown by travellers over the years. [...] Let’s WIZZ!”
The company continues to provide Romanian travelers with affordable, high-quality travel, while supporting the local economy, tourism, and aviation job market.
