Massive Quake Shakes Philippines: The US Geological Survey reports a particularly powerful earthquake felt this morning in the Philippines (October 10, around 07:00 GMT+3). According to the institute, the quake registered at 7.4, although reports from the Philippines indicate an even higher magnitude of 7.6.
This follows the recent 6.9 magnitude quake that was recorded in the Philippines on September 30. Notable seismic activity was also recorded in Japan.
While significant property damage has been announced, details are yet to come. The quake was also felt in Indonesia. A tsunami warning was issued for the Pacific region and parts of the US, which was later canceled.
Philippine media document evacuations of residents from their homes and extensive property damage. At this stage, it remains unclear whether there are casualties from the earthquake, which is exceptionally strong even by regional standards.
