Lufthansa is getting ready to celebrate the 100th anniversary of its founding in 2026.
The airline plans to mark the occasion by completely reimagining what it’s like to fly long-haul. The project, called FOX (Future Onboard Experience), will reshape the way passengers experience comfort, service, and individuality in the air.
Jens Ritter, CEO of Lufthansa Airlines: “We are investing over 70 million euros in our new Future Onboard Experience in the next twelve months alone. We are thus investing in a top premium product, in the satisfaction of our guests, and in the future of our airline. With more individuality, greater comfort and extraordinary Lufthansa Signature Moments, we are building on what has always characterized us over the past 100 years: being an attentive and unique host above the clouds.”
The airline has already been modernizing its fleet with the addition of Boeing 787-9 and Airbus A350-900 aircraft, along with the introduction of the new Allegris cabin design. However, FOX wishes to go further, updating every aspect of onboard service, from meals and amenities to how passengers interact with the crew, across all cabin classes, including those without the Allegris configuration.
A key focus is on giving travelers more control over their flight experience. For example, passengers in Business Class will be able to choose their second meal whenever they like, with options ranging from light snacks to full hot dishes. Economy and Premium Economy travelers will also see more variety, with three meal choices instead of two.
Lufthansa is also putting more emphasis on comfort, with the addition of upgraded textiles, new tableware, and refined amenities designed to feel both elegant and practical. Everything from the way meals are served to how items feel in hand is being reconsidered to make the experience more enjoyable.
The airline has also prepared the Lufthansa Signature Moments, which are small but meaningful touches that make the airline stand out. The signature rose in First Class, the caviar service, and the exclusive Avionic cocktail will continue to define Lufthansa’s character, while new culinary experiences inspired by destinations around the world will bring an extra sense of place and anticipation to each flight.
The FOX experience is set to debut in spring 2026, just in time for Lufthansa’s centennial, marking a fitting way to look back on a century of aviation while flying confidently into the future.
