Spend, save, and earn milesUnited Airlines has launched a new way for travelers to earn miles, not just when they fly, but when they spend and save. The MileagePlus Debit Rewards Card, now available online at UnitedDebitRewards.com, lets MileagePlus members collect miles on everyday purchases and qualifying account balances.

The debit card comes with no monthly fees for those maintaining an average daily balance of $2,000 or more. Members can use it for everything from groceries to dining, and of course, United flights, where they’ll earn extra miles.

For a limited time, new cardholders can also earn 10,000 bonus miles after opening an account and meeting spending requirements ($500 within the first four months).

“We're constantly looking for new ways to add value and optionality for our members, and a debit card is a natural next step,” said Bob Daly, United’s Managing Director of Global Co-Brand Cards. “The United MileagePlus Debit Rewards Card offers customers an additional way to earn miles whether they're spending on United flights and everyday purchases or saving and making plans for the future.”

Powered by Galileo, SoFi’s tech platform, the Visa-backed debit card is designed for convenience and flexibility. “It’s a great example of how leading brands can use Galileo’s modern platform to move quickly, meet customer demand, and create differentiated loyalty experiences,” said Bill Kennedy, Interim CEO and CFO of Galileo Financial Technologies.

Cardholders can earn one mile per dollar on United purchases and one mile for every two dollars spent on other eligible purchases. There’s also a 2,500-mile annual bonus for those who spend $10,000 in a year. Beyond that, members can earn miles based on their savings, up to 70,000 bonus miles annually for high account balances.

The card features practical benefits, including in-app card controls, spending limits, and a real-time tracking system for miles.

Open to all MileagePlus members, the card doesn’t require a credit check and won’t affect applicants’ credit scores. Funds are FDIC-insured through Sunrise Banks, N.A., and the program retains the same benefits that have made MileagePlus one of the top-rated airline loyalty programs, including miles that never expire, no blackout dates, and flexible redemption options.
