The powerful winter storm that hit Greece last night (December 4, 2025) is not stopping. After heavy rains caused flooding and extensive damage in the Athens area, the same is expected in the Rhodes area today, as the storm continues its path eastward. Crete has also been put on high alert following yesterday's damage recorded across various parts of the country.

The Greek Ministry of Education has decided to close schools across the country as a preventive measure.

Yesterday, at approximately 7:00 PM, Athens residents received an emergency alert on their mobile phones due to the much greater, unexpected intensity of the rains, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

As mentioned, the storm will continue today towards the eastern islands of Greece, the largest of which is Rhodes. Heavy rains are also expected to reach the Izmir region of Turkey.
