Powerful 7.6 Earthquake Hits Japan, Causing Fear of Extremely High Tsunami Waves

An extremely strong earthquake of magnitude 7.6 has been recorded off the coast of northern Japan. There are fears of powerful tsunami waves. Reports of waves as high as three meters expected

At around 2:30 PM today (GMT time, 11:30 PM Japan time), a very powerful earthquake struck northern Japan. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), the earthquake reached a magnitude of 7.6

The epicenter was near the coast of northern Japan, at a depth of 50 kilometers, but due to the magnitude, there is concern about powerful tsunami waves, which, according to reports in Japanese media, could reach about thrree meters in northern Japan.

About two weeks ago, on November 27a strong 6.3 magnitude earthquake was felt in Indonesia, near Simeulue Island in Aceh province, northwest of the city of Sinabang. 

The epicenter was about 62 km northwest of the city of Sinabang. No tsunami warning was issued then.
