Severe Rain Warning: Storm “Byron” Brings Flooding Risk to Cyprus

Cyprus Meteorological Service issued a 24-hour yellow awareness level for severe rain as Storm “Byron” brings heavy downpours and isolated thunderstorms; precipitations are expected tο range between 35 and 55 millimeters per hour

A severe rain warning that will affecte the entire island has been issued this morning (December 9, 2025) in Cyprus, as storm "Byron" arrives in the country. The warning, which mentions heavy rains and thunderstorms expected, went into effect this morning at 05:00 and will remain in effect for 24 hours, until tomorrow at 05:00.

According to the Cyprus Meteorological Service, there is also a chance of hail and strong winds. The rainfall rate is expected to range between 35 and 55 millimeters per hour, while the total rainfall is expected to exceed 55 millimeters locally within 24 hours. Driving conditions may be affected due to limited visibility and slippery roads.

Similar to what happened in Greece last weekend, Storm "Byron" will bring mainly heavy rain in short bursts, raising concerns about flooding.
