The US has issued an official travel warning following an unusual security escalation between Thailand and Cambodia.

According to a statement from the American missions in both countries, on December 8, 2025, there was an intense exchange of fire along the border, including artillery fire, small arms fire, and, according to reports from the embassy in Cambodia, attacks carried out by the Thai Air Force inside Cambodian territory.

Both countries are reporting cross-border shooting, and the situation in the region is described as volatile and unpredictable.

In its announcement, the US urges its citizens to avoid traveling within 50 km of the border and warns that emergency services near combat zones are limited.

The announcement stated that citizens should update their personal emergency plan, register or update details in the government's STEP program, and follow updates on official information channels, including government websites and social networks.
