Heavy Snowfall Disrupts Rail Travel Across Europe: These Stations Are Most Affected

Heavy snowfall is causing widespread train delays and cancellations across the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, and Poland. Which stations are currently affected and how long will the delays last?

Rail traffic across the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, and Poland is experiencing delays and blockages due to heavy snowfall, resulting in limited services and ongoing cancellations. 

The UK: Domestic Train Delays, Phone Lines Down

  • Due to heavy snowfall between Aberdeen and Edinburgh, passengers are advised to check their entire journey before reaching the station.

    Network Rail announced on Wednesday, January 7, that the line north of Edinburgh is still open with services going back to normal, but trains may continue to suffer delays, cancellations, and schedule alterations at short notice.

    The company has announced that disruptions may occur until the end of the day on Friday, January 9. Passengers are also informed that tickets for travel between Saturday, January 3, and Thursday, January 8 will be valid up to and including Friday, January 9.

  • International trains to/from the UK

  • Also on Wednesday, several trains between London and Amsterdam were disrupted:

    - Train ES 9106 was canceled. It was scheduled to depart London St Pancras International at 06:16 and arrive at Amsterdam Centraal at 11:20.

    - Train ES 9114 was delayed. The departure from London was planned for 08:16, with arrival in Amsterdam at 13:20.

    - Train ES 9126 was also delayed. It was due to leave London at 11:04 and arrive in Amsterdam at 16:22.

    - Train ES 9140 is operating with a limited service. It was scheduled to depart at 15:04 and arrive at 20:20. Some stops have been canceled.

    - Train ES 9152 is also running with a limited service. The planned departure time is 18:04, with arrival at 23:20.

  • Domestic and International Trains in the Netherlands

  • As of this report, 27 disruptions and 4 maintenance services were reported on the Dutch tracks, resulting in fewer trains running nationwide than previously announced. International trains are also not running as scheduled. 

  • Domestic and International trains in Germany, Sweden, and Poland may also encounter similar issues due to the reported bad weather, so be sure to check the official websites of the chosen railways before heading to the stations.
