Happening This Year: Revolutionary Upgrade Coming to easyJet Aircraft

The upgrade, carried out on the low-cost airline's aircraft in collaboration with Airbus, is expected to be completed in the summer of 2026 and will deliver thousands of tons of fuel savings and a significant reduction in carbon emissions. Here is the small component that makes all the difference: "Another small but important step in our mission to operate as efficiently as possible"

British low-cost carrier easyJet has announced the completion of an upgrade program for all of its remaining Airbus A320ceo aircraft, with the installation of Sharklets, which are wingtips manufactured by Airbus. The move is designed to improve fuel efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and cut operating costs.

The upgrade program, in collaboration with Airbus, began in October 2025 and is expected to be completed by the summer of 2026. A total of seven aircraft will be upgraded, with the first already converted and the remaining conversions to be completed within the next year.

Sharklets are advanced wingtip devices that reduce aerodynamic drag and improve aircraft performance. The upgrade is expected to reduce fuel consumption by up to 4% and deliver total fuel savings of approximately 2,156 tonnes per year across the easyJet fleet, representing a reduction of almost 7,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year.

In addition, installing Sharklets increases the aircraft's range by up to 100 nautical miles and adds six seats per aircraft, improving operational efficiency.

The upgraded aircraft are already operating from key bases in easyJet's network, including London Gatwick, Lisbon, Berlin, and Milan-Malpensa.

The move is part of easyJet's environmental roadmap, launched in 2022, in which the company set itself a target of a 35% reduction in carbon emissions by 2035.

David Morgan, easyJet's Chief Operating Officer: "Retrofitting our A320ceo aircraft with sharklets is another small but important step in our mission to operate as efficiently as possible. These upgrades deliver immediate reductions in fuel burn and carbon emissions and form part of many innovative solutions we’re employing to improve our efficiency and lower our impact."
