The widespread winter storm in North America continues to affect many parts of Canada and the United States, with an emphasis on the northeastern part of the country. The system has brought heavy snow, up to tens of centimeters deep, hail, and extreme temperatures the likes of which are almost unheard of in the United States. According to media reports, the death toll across the United States from the storm has already reached more than 10.

The severe disruptions at airports continue. According to reports from the American Civil Aviation Authority and the airports themselves, more than 15,000 flights have been canceled in recent days. Passengers are advised to check the airline websites, which operate special update pages on flight status.

The snowstorm is also disrupting operations at Canadian airports, and Toronto Airport, which is struggling to keep up with the White Mountains, released a video documenting the complex task of clearing snow.

60 CM of Snow, Up to 5 CM Per Hour

According to the National Weather Service, in the interior regions of the northeastern United States and New England, snow accumulations reach about 60 cm. The snow is falling at an extremely high rate of 2 to 5 cm per hour and is causing widespread traffic disruptions, road closures and delays that could last for several days. According to the forecast, the snow is expected to continue until tomorrow (Tuesday, January 27, 2026).

The storm is also causing extensive damage. Heavy hail is making driving dangerous, and many areas have been declared "impassable." Trees have reportedly fallen, and power outages are being reported in many areas.

On the southern front, rain is developing along the southeastern coast of the US. Light rain continues in Florida until the afternoon. Even after the main body of the storm has passed, extremely low temperatures are expected in the northeastern US, which could further complicate evacuation and recovery efforts from the storm over the next few days.
