The winter in Greece is more intense than usual this year, with one storm after another hitting the country.
After a series of storms in the past two weeks, one of which claimed the life of a resident in the central Attica region, a new one arrived yesterday, this time hitting mainly the Greek islands, with emphasis on the ones in the east. Despite the tourist season on the islands not being open, several reports spoke of property damage.
Today (Friday, January 30, 2026), the rain will stop temporarily, but another storm is expected tomorrow (Saturday, January 31 , 2026), according to fresh weather warnings issued by the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY).
Two warnings have been issued: a yellow warning for heavy rain and high winds in the Aegean Islands, and an orange warning for sailors in the Aegean Sea, from south of Athens to Crete.
However, unlike previous storms, temperatures in Greece will remain average for the season and will stand at 10-15 degrees during the day and 5-10 degrees at night in most parts of the country.
