Norwegian, the leading Nordic airline with headquarters in Fornebu just outside Norway’s capital city, Oslo, has announced the much-anticipated return of a long-requested connection for travelers in North Jutland. Namely, starting in April 2026, the company with more than 8,200 employees will launch direct flights between Aalborg Airport and London Gatwick. Departures will be available twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays.
The move is expected to give the region a direct link to one of Europe’s busiest and most influential cities, without routing everything through Copenhagen.
For a traveler living west of the Great Belt, these new direct international routes represent so much more than convenience, saving time, easing the experience, and making both work and leisure trips more realistic.
Since London has been one of the most popular destinations for Danish travelers for years, whether for city breaks, football matches, meetings, or longer stays, the new route gives North Jutland passengers a straightforward way to get there.
“We are very pleased that we can now meet the high demand for a direct connection between Aalborg and London. The route ensures a fast and smooth journey between North Jutland and one of the Danes' most popular destinations, without stopovers and wasted time. At the same time, the route strengthens our presence in Jutland and our ambition to strengthen and simplify accessibility through direct routes for all Danes on both sides of the Great Belt,” says Sara Neergaard, Country Director for Corporate Affairs in Denmark.
The flight schedule has been shaped with real-world travel patterns in mind. Evening departures from Aalborg on Thursdays and Sundays, paired with afternoon returns from London, make it easier to plan extended weekends, short business trips, or event travel without burning extra days.
Aalborg Airport sees the route as an important addition to its network.
"London is a highly sought-after destination among our travelers, and we are very pleased that we can reopen the route together with Norwegian," says airport director Niels Hemmingsen.
The launch is also a positive development for London Gatwick, which continues to expand its Nordic connections.
“We are delighted to welcome Norwegian’s new route to Aalborg, which further strengthens London Gatwick’s strong Nordic route network. The route gives travellers in London and the south-east of England even more choice,” says Jonny Macneal, Head of Aviation Development at London Gatwick Airport.
With the Gatwick service, Norwegian will operate eight direct routes from Aalborg, alongside flights to southern European destinations and frequent services to Copenhagen. The first flight takes off on April 2, lining up neatly with the Easter holidays. Tickets are already on sale, with fares starting from 299 kroner (20 EUR).
