According to the National Weather Service, a mix of dangerous fire weather and winter storms is expected to hit several parts of the United States this week, creating difficult conditions from the Plains to the western mountains.
In the central and southern High Plains, strong winds combined with very dry air will raise the risk of fast-spreading fires on Wednesday. These conditions can cause even small fires to grow quickly, especially in open grassland areas.
At the same time, winter weather continues to grip other regions. Two Pacific storm systems are moving across the western United States, bringing heavy snow and gusty winds to mountain areas through Thursday. Travel in higher elevations could be slow and hazardous as snow accumulates and visibility drops.
Further east, parts of the northern Plains and the central Great Lakes are also dealing with winter conditions. Heavy snowfall and strong winds are expected to continue on Wednesday, potentially causing blowing snow and hazardous driving conditions.
Officials are urging people in affected areas to stay updated on local forecasts and use caution, especially if traveling or spending time outdoors.
