The powerful storm expected to hit New York is already showing up in flight schedules. Along with blizzard warnings and calls to avoid travel, flight delays are already being reported at the region's major airports.

NYC Emergency Management has issued a hazardous travel warning for heavy snow, strong winds, and near-zero visibility. The heaviest impact is expected from late tonight through Monday morning, with snowfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour and winds up to 55 mph.

In practice, the disruptions are already being felt. Delays are being recorded for flights departing from John F. Kennedy International Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport.

Limited visibility, snow removal from runways, and the need to defrost aircraft are expected to continue to affect air traffic in the coming hours. Authorities recommend that passengers check flight status with the airline before arriving at the airport and prepare for additional delays.
