Wizz Air UK has cleared an important regulatory hurdle and can now operate flights between the United Kingdom and the United States.
The low-cost airline confirmed it has received the required permissions from aviation authorities to fly across the Atlantic. While the airline stressed that it does not currently plan to launch regular scheduled services to the US, the approval still marks a major operational milestone, mainly allowing Wizz Air UK to operate charter flights, particularly for European football teams and supporters traveling to major tournaments in the United States.
“This is a proud and exciting day for everyone at our airline,” said Yvonne Moynihan, Managing Director of Wizz Air UK, who also described being given the green light to operate between the UK and the US as “a huge milestone” expected to open the door to “incredible opportunities, particularly for European football teams and supporters travelling across the Atlantic this summer.”
“We are ready to deliver exceptional charter experiences and bring fans closer to the action in the United States,” Moynihan added.
Preparation for the official approval took several months of regulatory coordination and planning. The company believes football teams and supporters looking to travel for the upcoming World Cup events will be particularly interested in the new charter flights that will include tailored packages for large groups, combining flexible scheduling with efficient travel arrangements.
Beyond football-related travel, the airline says its charter services could also be used by tour operators, corporate groups, sports organizations, and private travelers looking for convenient transatlantic flights.
“This achievement reflects the dedication and professionalism of our entire team,” added Moynihan. “We are excited to welcome passengers on board and to celebrate this new chapter as we expand our reach across the Atlantic.”
