In March, Romania's national carrier TAROM assessed and centralized its data regarding takeoff times reported to schedule for flights between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2025. The results confirmed the airline's "above-average operational standard, achieved despite an increasingly dense and complex European air traffic context and its own operational limitations."
On-Time Departures and Delays
Of the total of 23,396 flights operated by the company during 2025, 19,240 took off on schedule, with zero delays. This means that more than 82% of flights, or more than 8 out of 10 flights operated, fully respected their flight schedule, according to the OTP (On-Time Performance) indicator. The latter is determined with a standard tolerance threshold of 15 minutes.
Of the total number of flights operated, close to 18% experienced delays of less than 3 hours, mostly bad weather or "cascading effects generated by disruptions across the European network."
"Only 0.2% of all flights experienced delays equal to or greater than 3 hours, an extremely low indicator that reflects the company's solid operational capacity," TAROM says.
Better Than the European Average
Aggregated civil aviation industry data for 2025 speak of an average OTP rate of 76.1%. in Europe. Differebtly put, around 76 out of 100 flights arrived on time last year. the rate was even lower in the summer, at just 71%.
Companies that manage to go over the 83% threshold are considered top performers, while operators with results between 60% and 70% are classified as low performers. It is worth noting that well-known airlines, whether traditional or low-cost, also positioned themselves in the 65%–72% range of this ranking in 2025.
With an OTP of 82.24%, TAROM is on the verge of being a top performer in European aviation, exceeding the annual industry average by over 6%. These results place TAROM in the category of air carriers that deliver above-average predictability in their own flights.
"These figures are a confirmation of the work of our operational, technical and planning teams. Punctuality and predictability are part of a daily commitment to our passengers that we will continue to prioritize in 2026 ," said TAROM General Manager Bogdan Costaș.
