United States President Donald Trump announced that he intends to sign a presidential order asking for immediate payment to Transportation Security Administration (TSA) employees, amid the ongoing crisis in airport security operations.
In a message he posted on Truth Social, Trump wrote that the move was intended to address the emergency created by the shutdown of funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which led to disruptions and long lines across the United States.
Trump sharply attacked the Democrats, accusing them of creating the crisis, which has been going on for over 40 days, and noted that he would not allow "the country to be held hostage."
Recall that last week, Trump tried to address the crisis with temporary measures, deploying ICE agents to airports to assist TSA employees. The move drew criticism, in part because of the immigration agency's involvement, which has recently made headlines following controversial incidents.
The TSA crisis began several weeks ago amid a dispute between Republicans and Democrats over funding and salaries for airport security workers. According to reports, some workers even received paychecks for $0, which disrupted the organization's operations and exacerbated congestion at airports.
