It's Happening Again: Tourists Receive Scary Missile Alert-Style Messages Due to Extreme Weather in Greece

It's happening again. Authorities in Greece are sending out emergency alerts that sound and look like like early warnings about missile launches. The message sent out says that traffic should be "reduced" due to the storm reaching several areas of the country.

Emergency alerts called CB ("Cellular Broadcast") are intended to notify of an extreme event like a fire or extreme weather.

The last time such an alert was sent to cell phones in Greece was in January.

The expected storm will cause extreme conditions across the country. Heavy rains, thunderstorms, and strong winds are expected in the Attica region, the Peloponnese, Rhodes, and other areas, all of which are expected to continue until the evening of tomorrow, April 2, 2020.

In addition to the urgent mesages on phones, the Greek authorities also published messages on social media, no less extreme, stating that it is recommended not to leave the house in areas where a storm is expected, and to consider not using vehicles during the storm, for fear of flooding and traffic accidents due to difficult driving conditions.
