New Disruptions in Italy: Four-Hour National Strike on Friday to Affect Airports and Public Transportation, and It's Just the Beginning

Italy’s Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport has announced a series of four-hour strikes and stoppages involving airport staff, security, air traffic control workers, and bus services on April 10. Other strikes affecting aviation, rail, and public transport from April 11 to 19, causing major travel disruption in multiple cities and regions

According to the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, several transport unions have announced a four-hour national strike on Friday, April 10, 2026. The walk-outs have been scheduled from 13:00 to 17:00 local time (11:00 to 15:00 GMT) and will involve ground-handling staff, security screeners, and some air-traffic-control technicians, as well as Busitalia Sita Nord personnel, according to the official strike calendar updated by the ministry.

Strikes will carry on into the weekend, and they will be followed by other stoppages affecting local public transport, freight transport, and maritime transport next week.

Strikes scheduled for Friday, April 10 (13:00-17:00 local time):

-UILT‑UIL has proclaimed a four-hour national strike by Techno Sky personnel, ENAV’s technical services subsidiary

-ENAV air traffic service staff have announced a four-hour nationwide work stoppage 

-Staff at ENAV’s Milan Area Control Center will go on strike, with direct impacts on sectors managed by ACC Milano

-ENAV personnel at Milan Malpensa Airport will interrupt their activity for four hours  

-ENAV personnel at Naples Airport will strike for four hours, organized by RSA UILT-UIL/UGL-TA/FAST-CONFSAL-AV

-Busitalia Sita Nord staff (production units in Veneto, Umbria, and Campania) will go on strike between 8:01 PM and 12:00 AM local time (6:01 PM-10:00 PM GMT)

Strikes scheduled for Saturday, April 11, 2026:

-24-hour national railway strike announced by COBAS PRIVATE WORK/RAILWAY COORDINATION, affecting RFI company staff responsible for infrastructure maintenance systems

-24-hour national railway strike announced by the National Assembly of RFI Infrastructure Maintenance Workers

 Strikes scheduled for April 13:

-Local public transport strike by Naples (EAV staff), between 11:00 – 15:00 (local time)

-Nationwide four-hour strike by Elior Ristorazione railway staff starting at the start of shifts 

-Local urban public transport strike by Udine (ARRIVA staff) between 17:30 – 21:29 (local time) and local extraurban public transport strike between 17:15 – 21:14 (local time) 

-IAS buss staff strike by Corigliano-Rossano between 10:57 – 14:57 (local time) 

Strikes scheduled on April 14–18:

-Ongoing 12-hour Sicily freight transport strike organized by third-party road freight transport from April 14 (00:01) to April 18 (24:00)

Strikes scheduled for April 17:

-Maritime strike disruption at the Strait of Messina organized by BluJet staff between 09:01 – 17:01 (local time)

Strikes scheduled for April 19:

-Florence public transport strike between 13:00 – 17:00 (local time)
