Munich Airport officially launched the new wing of Terminal 1 yesterday, April 21, 2026. The new construction, which entered into full operation, was celebrated through a warm passenger welcome led by Thomas Hoff Andersson, the airport's Chief Operating Officer.
On the first day of operation, the new wing carried over 11,000 passengers, with more than 70 flights operating to and from it. Among the notable events was the landing of an American Airlines flight from Charlotte, which was greeted with a traditional salute. Also notable was the first Delta Air Lines flight to Detroit.
The morning was also marked by the special landing of Cathay Pacific's Airbus A350-900, painted in a retro livery to celebrate the company's 80th anniversary.
The construction of the new wing marks the completion of a large-scale infrastructure project that has lasted over seven years, carried out in parallel with the airport's ongoing operations, with a comprehensive run-in period over the past six months in preparation for full opening.
The new complex features modern architectural design alongside improved passenger flow, with the aim of streamlining the terminal experience and adapting it to current international aviation standards.
