The management of the Panhellenic Seamen’s Federation (PNOhas announced a 24-hour general strike on all types of vessels on Friday, May 1, 2026. The strike will begin at 00:01 and continue until midnight that day.

The decision was made unanimously during a meeting held yesterday, April 22, to mark International Workers' Day or May Day. The organization emphasizes that the goal of the move is to continue the fight for the safety of human life at sea and the maintenance of decent working conditions.

Their main demands include strengthening the collective bargaining mechanism, renewing and signing collective labor agreements, as well as protecting and expanding trade union rights. In addition, the organization calls for improving public services in the areas of health and education, as well as restoring past cuts that harmed seafarers.

Currently, no other labor organizations have joined the strike, but in the past, around "Labor Day" and other protests, taxi drivers' organizations have joined, shutting down service.
