At the end of April, Brussels Airport management said it expected a planned national strike on May 12, 2026, to cause a personnel shortage, leading to some outgoing flights being canceled and incoming flights being affected.
The strike is part of broader protests and is also expected to affect public transportation services to and from the airport, which may make it difficult for passengers to reach the airport.
The airport recommended that passengers check their flight status with their airline and prepare in advance for possible schedule changes.
The latest update from Brussels South Charleroi Airport now informs the public that, "due to the national day of actions planned for Tuesday 12 May and the lack of staff available to ensure safe operations, Charleroi Airport will not be able to operate scheduled departures and arrivals."
Passengers scheduled to fly via Charleroi on May 12 will be contacted in the coming days by their airline for a rebooking or refund.
"We regret the impact of this national strike on our passengers' travel plans and apologise for any inconvenience caused."
Last month, a strike by labor organizations at the airport led to widespread disruptions in airport operations. At the start of April, we also reported on planned general bus and tram strikes in Belgium as part of the "Provincial Days of Action."
The airport also recently faced backlash as passengers reported daily two-hour queues.
