Wizz Air continues to expand its international operations, with the launch of a new route between Budapest and Ankara, the first ever scheduled flights between the capitals of Hungary and Turkey.
The new route will operate three times a week via Airbus A321neo aircraft and constitutes another step in strengthening air ties between the two countries, at both the business and tourist levels.
Budapest Airport data indicate that this line has significant potential, with over 10,000 connecting passengers per year and approximately 30% of passengers defined as business travelers, a figure that reinforces its economic importance.
Expanding the Network to Turkey
The Ankara route joins Wizz Air's existing operations to Turkey, which include Istanbul, Izmir, and Antalya, and is part of Budapest Airport's broader expansion into the Turkish market.
Overall, capacity between Budapest and Turkey is expected to reach approximately 900,000 seats per year, with Wizz Air's operations alone likely to go over the 300,000-seat mark in 2026.
Budapest Airport notes that this is a direct response to growing passenger demand for diverse, comfortable flights, as well as to strengthening cultural and business ties between the countries.
According to Matthe Ritter, Director Airline Development at Budapest Airport, this is another significant step in the expansion of the network: "We are delighted to welcome the first-ever scheduled service to Ankara, operated by our long-term partner Wizz Air, which further enhances our strong and expanding network to Türkiye. We look forward to continued growth with Wizz Air in 2026 as we respond to increasing passenger demand for diverse and convenient travel options.”
