National flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines has placed a new order for 14 Boeing aircraft, the largest deal in the company's history.

The deal includes eight Boeing 787-10 aircraft, the first in the company's fleet, alongside two 787-9 aircraft and four Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

The company notes that the 787-10 aircraft will be used for particularly busy flights, mainly to destinations in the Middle East, while the 787-9 aircraft will be operated on long-haul routes to Europe and North America. The 737 MAX aircraft will be used to strengthen the regional network, including destinations in the Middle East, India, and Southeast Asia.

According to the company's CEOKaizer Sohel Ahmed, “The new fuel-efficient, technologically advanced aircraft will modernize Biman’s fleet, sharpen operational performance, and extend its international route network.”

The company currently operates a fleet of 14 Boeing aircraft, including the previous-generation 787, 777 and 737. With the introduction of the new aircraft, an increase in passenger and cargo capacity is expected, along with improved fuel efficiency, with the 787 and 737 MAX models offering fuel savings of approximately 20%-25% compared to older aircraft.

Recall that earlier this week, the Panamanian airline Copa Airlines also announced a significant order for 40 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, along with an option to purchase up to 20 additional aircraft from the same family.
