The State Emergency Service in Ukraine has announced that firefighters in four regions of the country are currently fighting to extinguish nine fires covering areas like Rivne, Zhytomyr, where a large-scale forest fire in the Polish Nature Reserve is rapidly spread by "strong winds and high air temperatures", Kyiv (1180 hectares with conditions worsening because of dry weather and sharp gusts of wind), and Chernobyl.
Officials estimate an area of 1200 ha has been affected by the fire in Chernobyl. "Due to the proximity to the border, chaotic mining of territories and the threat of Russian shelling, the involvement of the DSNS equipment and personnel is currently impossible. Forestry workers create mineralized lanes to prevent fire from spreading."
In total, at all locations from dsns are involved 379 firefighters and 99 units of equipment.
"The situation is completely under control. Thanks to the rescuers, foresters, suppers and all services that work in extremely difficult and dangerous conditions," said a recent update.
Given the sensitive area, officials also issued an update regarding the level of gamma radiation in the area.As of 14:00 (GMT), and according to data from the National Hydrometeorological Service of the DSNS, "the level of gamma radiation remains within the norm throughout the country."
Elimination of the large-scale fire in the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone is still ongoing.
