Heathrow Airport has released its April traffic report, and the numbers are reassuring, showing strong transfer passenger demand up 10% year-over-year.
The figures, explained Heathrow, reflect the airport's "role in supporting passenger re‑routing" through its "world‑class direct connectivity to Asia and Oceania amid the ongoing impact of the Middle East conflict."
Against the backdrop, the number of passengers that transited the airport in April went down 5% YoY to 6.7 million, "reflecting short‑term adjustments to travel plans."
At the same time, cargo volumes stayed stable, "reinforcing the continued importance of the UK’s global hub for trade."
Airport CEO Thomas Woldbye: "We know passengers want certainty when planning their hard-earned summer holidays, so we are supporting Government and airlines as they work through their plans to get passengers on their journeys."
“While we have seen some short‑term disruption linked to the Middle East conflict, demand for travel remains strong with current fuel supplies stable. April was still our busiest month so far this year, underlining the strength of a global hub airport that can adapt quickly in times of uncertainty."
- Heathrow also shared that recent UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) data reveal its "excellent operational performance as London’s most punctual airport" and leading compared to European hub competitors, "with colleagues laying strong foundations ahead of the busy summer season."

- "We want passengers to feel confident planning their summer holidays this year, so we are supporting Government in their role overseeing the national fuel strategy and our airline partners in firming up their schedules, so passengers can get where they want to go. We will respond to Government’s consultation supporting the existing policy framework that gives airlines flexibility in the event of future fuel uncertainty.
