Mexico's Acapulco International Airport is set to expand its international connectivity with new routes to Canada scheduled for the 2026–2027 winter season, according to OMA Grupo Aeroportuario Centro Norte) Chief Executive Officer, Ricardo Dueñas.
“We continue to strengthen the international connectivity of Acapulco Airport with upcoming routes operated by Sunwing Vacations and WestJet,” the CEO said.

Photo: Shutterstock The expansion comes at a crucial time as Acapulco continues rebuilding and reestablishing its tourism industry following recent hurricane impacts, including Hurricane Otis, which caused widespread destruction in Acapulco, taking the lives of more than 50 people, destroying over 50,000 homes, causing significant damage estimated between $12 billion and $16 billion, making it the costliest hurricane in Mexican history.

Álvarez International Airport, is located about 26 km (16 miles) southeast of the downtown area, connecting tourists and business travelers to domestic and seasonal international destinations. The airport features one main runway operating on a 24-hour basis and a passenger terminal that can handle over 1 million travelers a year.
