Yesterday, May 27, 2026, the UKHSA decided to extend an amber heat-health alert across London and wider regions, asking residents to stay hydrated, avoid heat exposure, and check on vulnerable people.
Now, it is time for Parisian authorities to issue an official orange heatwave alert amid the abnormally high temperatures that have taken over Europe in the last few days.
London Météo-France has placed the French capital under the heatwave alert effective from today, Thursday, May 28, 2026, at 12:00 PM (local time).
According to Paris Police, state services have been "mobilized to monitor the situation and limit the consequences" of the extreme heat.
According to the ORSEC plan for "health management of heatwaves," the Prefecture of the Ile-de-France region, the Prefecture of Paris, together with the Paris Police Prefecture, have all requested that State services "deploy actions across the Parisian territory aimed at the most vulnerable populations."
The actions include raising awareness among healthcare and social care facilities that host elderly people and people with disabilities, providing preventive information, mobilizing accommodation centers to protect residents, and extending the operating hours of social outreach workers in the evenings and on weekends.
Similar to the Indian Prime Minister's message amid the heatwave that is also affecting the country, Parisians and tourists alike are advised to stay hydrated by drinking water before the thirst sensation kicks in, cool the body several times a day, eat sufficient food, steer clear of alcohol, and limit extreme heat exposure by remaining indoors and avoiding sports activities.
