Emergency crews were deployed near Prague's Točná Airport on Tuesday afternoon (June 2) after a private ultralight aircraft crashed into a field shortly after 4 p.m.

According to Czech police, two people were on board the aircraft when it went down near the airport on the southern outskirts of the Czech capital.

"After 4 p.m., a private plane crashed into a field near Prague's Točná Airport, with two people on board. Police are responding at the scene together with Prague Firefighters and Prague City Rescue Service," the Police of the Czech Republic said in a statement.

The Fire Rescue Service of Prague confirmed that four firefighter units were dispatched following reports of the crash.

"In response to the reported crash of an ultralight aircraft, 4 firefighter units were dispatched. Upon arrival at the scene, the aircraft crash was confirmed, and the units extinguished the burning parts of the aircraft," the service said.

Firefighters added that crews from Modřany remained at the scene and would continue assisting police as the response and investigation continued.

According to a recent update from the City Rescute Service, an inspector, a rescue crew, and a crew with a doctor immediately arrived at the scene, where they found "two individuals with injuries incompatible with life."

"The doctor pronounced death, and a coroner was called to the scene. The circumstances of the ultralight aircraft crash will now be investigated by criminal investigators together with staff from the Civil Aviation Authority," the announcement added.

Točná Airport is a small general aviation airfield located south of central Prague and is primarily used by private and recreational aircraft.

In mid-May, a small aircraft crashed into a house in Akron, Ohio. Also in May, a single-engine plane crashed into a residential building in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, killing two and injuring three.
