A small aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing on a public road in southern Tenerife on Thursday afternoon, prompting a large response from emergency services.

According to emergency officials from 112 Canarias, the incident occurred at around 5 p.m. in the municipality of San Miguel de Abona. The aircraft landed on Calle María de los Ángeles Ascanio Cullén, a road located near a local golf course.

The two people on board were able to exit the aircraft on their own following the landing. Ambulance crews from the Canary Islands Emergency Service assessed both occupants at the scene before transporting them to a hospital for further observation and medical evaluation.

Authorities said neither person appeared to have suffered serious injuries.

Emergency responders quickly secured the area after fuel spilled onto the roadway. Firefighters deployed a foam blanket to reduce the risk of ignition while crews worked to make the scene safe.

"The ambulance staff assessed the two occupants who exited the aircraft on their own and transferred them to a hospital center for observation and to complete their assessment, although they do not present any apparent serious injuries," 112 Canarias said in an update.

Officials also confirmed that the incident did not involve any pedestrians or other vehicles despite the aircraft landing on a public road.

Officers from the Guardia Civil and the local police secured the area while emergency teams responded to the incident.

Authorities have not yet released details about the aircraft involved or the circumstances that led to the emergency landing. An investigation is expected to determine what caused the pilot to bring the aircraft down onto the road rather than reach an airport.

The incident raised concerns among residents and visitors in the area, but the outcome could have been far more serious given the landing's location and the presence of fuel on the roadway.
