A powerful 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck the southern Philippines on Monday night, near the island of Mindanao. Following the quake, authorities issued tsunami warnings for various parts of the Philippines and other countries in the Pacific region.

Shortly after the main earthquake, a strong aftershock was also recorded, increasing the alertness in the area. Authorities called on residents in coastal areas to heed instructions and stay away from the water line in accordance with emergency guidelines.

At the same time, the National Tsunami Warning Center in the United States (NTWC) clarified that there is no tsunami threat to the coasts of the United States and Canada following the event.

Local authorities in the Philippines and nearby countries continue to monitor developments, conduct damage assessments, and compile information on casualties and damage caused by the earthquake.
