The Icelandic airline Icelandair and the Canadian company Westjet have announced the signing of a bilateral codeshare agreement, a move that is expected to significantly expand the connection between Canada, Iceland and other European countries.
The agreement was signed at the 82nd annual conference of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. As part of the collaboration, passengers of both companies will be able to book flights on both companies' networks under one ticket, with more convenient connecting flights and a simple and efficient travel process.

In turn, Westjet passengers will enjoy more convenient access to Iceland and a wide range of destinations in Europe via the Icelandic carrier’s home port of Reykjavik.
Icelandair President and CEO, Bogi Nils Bogason, said that this is a significant step in expanding the company's global network. According to him, the collaboration will give customers more options and make flying between Canada, Iceland and other European countries simpler and more convenient.
Westjet also sees the move as a lever for growth. John Weatherill, the company's chief commercial officer, noted that the agreement will allow Canadian passengers greater access to Europe through Icelandair's network of destinations, while improving the flight experience and increasing the variety of options.
Flights under the codeshare agreement are expected to open for booking in the fall of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals. Passengers will also benefit from seamless check-in and automated baggage transfer to their final destination.
