Passengers traveling across Italy are being warned of widespread rail disruption after a national strike involving FS Group staff, including Trenitalia, Trenitalia Tper and Trenord, was confirmed for June 11-12, 2026.

The industrial action will run from 3:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, until 2:00 a.m. on Friday, June 12, with operators warning that trains may be canceled, delayed, or modified nationwide. Rail links to and from Rome Fiumicino Airport are also expected to be affected.

According to Trenitalia, "trains may be subject to cancellations or changes" and service disruptions could occur both before the strike begins and after it ends.

Essential regional services will remain guaranteed during weekday peak periods from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., while a list of long-distance trains will continue to operate during the strike.

More Disruptions

The announcement comes as several Intercity services are already experiencing disruptions today, June 10. Multiple overnight trains were running more than an hour behind schedule due to technical issues and operational delays, while four Intercity services in southern Italy were canceled and replaced by buses.

Passengers wishing to cancel their journeys can request refunds. Trenitalia said refunds are available "until the departure time of the booked train, for Intercity and Frecce trains" and "until midnight on the day before the strike itself, for regional trains."

Travelers may also reschedule their journeys under the same transport conditions, subject to seat availability.

Additional regional disruption is expected in northern Italy. Staff at SAD and Trentino Trasporti in the Trentino-Alto Adige region are set to strike for most of June 11, affecting services on routes including Bolzano–Trento, Bolzano–Merano, Merano–Malles and Trento–Bassano del Grappa.

Rail operators are advising passengers to check the latest service information before travelling through official websites, mobile apps, station ticket offices and customer service channels.
