Sun Phu Quoc Airways, considered one of the new and intriguing players in the Vietnamese aviation industry, continues to expand its destination network with the announcement of a new direct route between Phu Quoc (PQC) and Bangkok (BKK).
Ticket sales for the new route opened on June 11, 2026, with the first flight expected to depart on August 8. The route will operate daily and offer passengers full service, with the aim of strengthening connectivity between Thailand and Vietnam.
The new connection connects Bangkok, one of the most important tourist and aviation centers in Asia, and Phu Quoc, the largest resort island in Vietnam, which in recent years has become one of the most sought-after vacation destinations in the region thanks to its beaches, luxury resorts, and accelerated tourism development.
Phu Quoc At the Center
Sun Phu Quoc Airways has placed Phu Quoc Island at the center of its operations and is working to expand international connections from it to key destinations in Asia. The new route to Bangkok joins the company's efforts to position the island as a significant tourist gateway in the region.
Sun Phu Quoc Airways operates under the Sun Group, one of the country's largest tourism and real estate groups, which has invested billions of dollars in developing Phu Quoc Island and turning it into a leading international destination.
The company was established as part of Sun Group's vision to connect Phu Quoc to major tourist centers in Asia through an expanding international flight network. For many tourists, including Israelis traveling in the Far East, this route can ease the transition between Thailand and Vietnam and offer another convenient option for combining two extremely popular destinations.
Sun Phu Quoc Airways has ambitions much bigger than just operating regional flights. Last February, the company announced a huge deal with Boeing to order up to 40 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, a deal described as the largest wide-body aircraft order in Vietnam’s history. The move is intended to form the basis of the company’s long-haul fleet and allow it to operate direct routes from Asia to destinations in Europe and even North America in the future.
The company operates under a unique model known as "Resort Aviation", in which Phu Quoc Island serves as a hub connecting tourism, hotels and aviation. As stated, Sun Group's vision is to transform the island into one of the most prominent international tourism hubs in Southeast Asia, combining resorts, theme parks, marinas and advanced tourism infrastructure with an expanding international flight network.
