Eurowings is expanding its commitment to Mallorca as part of a new agreement with the Government of the Balearic Islands aimed at attracting more visitors outside the traditional summer season.

The partnership was announced following a meeting between Balearic Islands President Marga Prohens and Eurowings Chief Executive Officer Max Kownatzki in Palma. Both sides agreed to work together to spread tourism demand more evenly throughout the year while creating additional employment opportunities during the quieter autumn and winter months.

A key part of the plan involves a significant increase in Eurowings' winter operations on the island. Beginning with the 2026-27 winter schedule, the airline intends to base six aircraft in Palma de Mallorca throughout the season. The move will double the number of aircraft stationed on the island compared with two years ago and represents the largest winter presence the carrier has ever maintained in Mallorca.

The expansion is designed to support the Balearic Government's strategy of reducing the island's dependence on peak summer tourism by encouraging year round travel and economic activity.

Beyond flight operations, Eurowings is also evaluating the possibility of expanding its technical infrastructure in Palma. The airline is exploring the development of local aircraft maintenance capabilities, a project that could generate highly skilled, permanent jobs and strengthen Mallorca's position as an aviation hub.

According to both parties, the initiative could also lead to collaboration with local universities to support workforce development, innovation, and technical training programs.

"Eurowings brings not only visitors to the island but also highly qualified jobs," said Kownatzki. "The goals of the Balearic Government and Eurowings complement one another. Together, we want to create the conditions necessary to establish Mallorca more firmly as a destination for all four seasons."

He added that Mallorca offers far more than beach holidays, particularly during the cooler months when the island attracts hikers, cyclists, nature lovers, and travelers seeking milder temperatures.

The latest expansion builds on Eurowings' long standing presence in Mallorca. Since opening its Palma base in 2017, the Lufthansa Group airline has steadily increased its operations and now employs nearly 1,000 people locally.

During the summer season, Eurowings connects Mallorca with 26 airports and operates around 400 weekly flights, primarily linking the island with destinations in Germany and Austria.

The airline has also invested in local infrastructure through Wings Handling, its ground services company, further strengthening its long term commitment to the island's economy and tourism industry.
