Travelers planning to fly into San Francisco International Airport (SFO) may experience delays in landings over the next few months.

The United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced an increase in the separation distances between aircraft landing at the airport, a move that comes in conjunction with construction and maintenance work on the runways. The combination of the two is expected to cause delays in airport operations, especially landings.

It is estimated that about 30% of flights arriving at SFO are expected to be delayed by at least 30 minutes. Aviation officials note that the impact may vary depending on air traffic loads and operating conditions at the airport.

The closed route is expected to reopen in early October 2026. Until then, passengers are advised to check with their airlines regarding flight dates and any schedule changes.
