The international hotel chain IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed contracts to build four new hotels in Italy, bringing the chain's portfolio in the country to more than 50 properties (32 open and more than 20 planned).
The move is part of the company's expansion strategy in Italy, which it defines as one of the most important tourism and hospitality markets in Europe.
The main project is a dual hotel in Milan, which will combine the Crowne Plaza and Staybridge Suites brands under one roof for the first time in Italy.
The hotel, which will be built in the emerging NoLo district through the conversion of an existing hotel, will feature 167 Crowne Plaza rooms and 96 extended-stay Staybridge Suites. Scheduled to open in January 2027, the complex will offer restaurants, bars, a swimming pool, a fitness center and eight meeting rooms covering approximately 1,000 square meters.
At the same time, IHG signed the first Indigo Hotel in the Puglia region of southern Italy. The new hotel, which will open in 2028 near the Alberobello World Heritage Site, will include 129 rooms, a spa, a gym and a conference center, and will be based on the local culture and character in its design - in line with the brand's concept.
In addition, the Garner brand will continue to expand in Italy with the opening of a new hotel in Turin in mid-2027. The hotel, which will include 57 rooms, will be located in a historic building opposite the Porta Nuova central train station and will be IHG's first collaboration with the Italian hotel group Gruppo Stay.
According to the chain, crossing the 50-hotel threshold in the country reflects the growing trust of hotel owners in the company's brands and the great potential it identifies in both the country's major cities and resort destinations.
