The Arctic destination of Levi has turned its summer landscape into an interactive treasure hunt with the launch of the “Midnight Sun Hunt” on June 18 in Finnish Lapland.
The interesting initiative invites participants to follow a series of clues released throughout the summer, leading them across trails, landmarks and local attractions in search of a hidden gold bar. While the prize can be discovered at any stage, each new clue makes its location easier to pinpoint as the hunt progresses.

Lapland's Summer Side Under the Midnight Sun
Midnight sun in Finland. Photo: Shutterstock Levi, located above the Arctic Circle, is best known as a winter ski destination, but its summer season offers a dramatically different experience.
During the summer months, the midnight sun keeps the landscape illuminated around the clock, creating near-continuous daylight for outdoor activities.
“Levi is known above all for its winter, but the northern summer is still undiscovered by many,” said Satu Pesonen, CEO of Visit Levi. “We want to give travelers a new reason to visit Levi when the sun never sets, and the fell landscape reveals a completely different side of itself.”
Participants will be guided through a network of marked trails, scenic viewpoints and services across Levi. Organizers emphasize that the experience is designed to promote responsible exploration of the region.
Clues released over the summer will gradually narrow down the search area, but participants are free to attempt to locate the prize at any point during the event.
Responsible Exploration Encouraged
Authorities behind the initiative are encouraging visitors to respect nature and stay within permitted areas while taking part. The gold bar has been hidden in a way that does not require digging or environmental disturbance.

The Midnight Sun Hunt will run until August 22, 2026, giving visitors throughout the summer season a chance to participate.
