Guests at a hotel in Nagqu, in China's Tibet Autonomous Region, received an unexpected visitor after a Tibetan brown bear wandered into the property and climbed to the second floor before attempting to enter a guest room.
According to Shanghai Daily, the newspaper owned by a state media company under the control of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, the incident took place on July 4, 2026, when the bear entered the hotel lobby before making its way upstairs.

The animal reportedly pushed open the door to a guest room using its paws, prompting the hotel owner to respond.
The owner rushed to the scene carrying a flashlight and tools, using them to scare the bear away before anyone was injured.
No guests or staff were harmed during the encounter, according to the report.
Following the incident, the hotel has introduced additional bear-proof measures to reduce the risk of wildlife entering the building in the future.
Encounters between humans and wildlife can occur in parts of the Tibetan Plateau, where Tibetan brown bears inhabit remote mountainous areas. Authorities generally advise people to avoid approaching wild bears and to notify local officials if an animal is spotted near populated areas.
