A taxiing Saudia aircraft struck the tail section of a parked Philippine Airlines (PAL) aircraft at Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) late Tuesday, July 7, according to airport operator New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC).
The incident occurred as Saudia Flight SV871 was taxiing for departure. Initial reports indicate that the aircraft's wingtip struck the tail section of a parked Philippine Airlines Airbus A320 at low speed.
NNIC said all passengers aboard the subsequently canceled Saudia flight safely disembarked following the incident.
Philippine Airlines confirmed that no passengers or crew members were on board the parked aircraft when it was struck.
Both aircraft sustained damage and are currently undergoing technical assessment. According to NNIC, no airport infrastructure or ground equipment was damaged, and airport operations were not significantly affected.
The airport operator said a full investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision, including a review of airside communications, aircraft movement records, and other operational data.
NNIC added that it is cooperating fully with the two airlines and aviation authorities to support a thorough and objective investigation.
