A severe heat wave is currently hitting the Greek capital and other European cities, with temperatures exceeding 30 degrees and expected to soar to 36 degrees early next week.

However, by midday, the sky in the city center had darkened and the many tourists flooding the city and the busy shopping streets were washed away by heavy rain that began to fall. This is a relatively rare event for the Greek capital.

The locals in the city were not surprised, and even knew that rain was expected today. Not only was that in the weather forecast, but some are also reporting alerts received on their cell phones due to the changing weather.

However, as mentioned, temperatures are expected to rise in the coming days, and the heat wave will peak next week with temperatures of 36 degrees and perhaps even higher.
