British Airways has suspended several cabin crew members and launched an investigation after a London-bound flight from Barbados was canceled following reports that some crew members were allegedly unfit for duty after a night of heavy drinking.
Flight BA254 from Bridgetown to London Heathrow was scheduled to depart on July 5, 2026, but was canceled after the airline reportedly did not have the minimum number of fit cabin crew required to operate the Boeing 777 service. The disruption affected the passengers who were left stranded while British Airways arranged replacement travel.
British Airways has confirmed it is investigating the incident, stating: "We expect the highest standards of our crew, and we are urgently investigating this matter. We've stood a number of colleagues down whilst we investigate."
At the end of May, Japan Airlines apologized over a cabin attendant who failed a pre-flight alcohol test before a domestic flight to Tokyo, causing delays and renewed scrutiny over alcohol related incidents.
