The United Arab Emirates is achieving an unprecedented global milestone in aviation and tourism: the country's General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has granted official regulatory approval for the world's first purpose-built commercial eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) aircraft.
The innovative airstrip, officially codenamed VDX, is strategically located next to Dubai International Airport (DXB). It will serve as the homeport and hub for the planned flying taxi network, which currently includes three additional airstrips that are currently in accelerated development.

The impressive structure spans four floors and covers an area of approximately 3,100 square meters. It includes two dedicated takeoff and landing areas, advanced fast-charging systems for electric aircraft, and luxurious, high-capacity passenger facilities capable of accommodating up to 170,000 passengers per year once full operations begin.
UAE officials stressed that the move not only solidifies Dubai’s position as a global leader in technological innovation, but also supports the country’s economic and environmental goals for green and sustainable mobility. For travelers and businesspeople visiting the city in the near future, this is real news that will dramatically shorten travel times and make the experience of visiting Dubai more futuristic than ever.
