Athens International Airport continues to solidify its position as one of the world's leading airports. The Air Transport Research Society (ATRS), considered one of the most important research and evaluation bodies in the global aviation industry, awarded the airport a particularly prestigious award yesterday (July 14, 2026).

This is the "Europe Airport Efficiency Excellence 2026" award, which is given to the most efficient airport in Europe in the category of airports handling more than 30 million passengers per year.

The selection was based on the organization's annual benchmarking report, which examines the performance of nearly 200 commercial airports around the world. The assessment examines a wide range of indicators, including economic efficiency, productivity, competitiveness, management quality, and the airport's contribution to the economy and society.

According to ATRS, Athens Airport stood out for its significant impact on the Greek economy, its contribution to the development of the tourism and aviation industries, and its ability to generate lasting value for the economy and society, particularly important achievements in a period characterized by challenges and rapid changes in the global aviation industry.

This is another international recognition for Athens Airport, which has previously won the ATRS Efficiency Award in 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2020. The current win reinforces its status as one of the most efficient and respected airports in Europe, and highlights its central role in the growth of the aviation and tourism industries in Greece.
