The month of June ended on a positive note for Athens International Airport, which looks set to break its own passenger traffic record once again in 2026.

Despite the geopolitical instability in the region, during the past month, approximately 3.5 million passengers passed through the airport, an increase of 1.7% compared to June 2025.

According to data from the airport, passenger traffic on domestic flights in June increased by 2.3%, while international traffic increased by only 1.5%.

In the first six months of 2026, growth was recorded in both domestic and international flights: passenger traffic on domestic flights increased by 5.1%, while international flights increased by 4.2% compared to the same period last year.

As mentioned, compared to last year, it is clear that Athens International Airport may break the all-time record for passenger traffic in 2026. Let us recall that, alongside the planned upgrade and expansion of the airport for the coming years, this year Athens Airport switched to 100% green energy consumption and became the first in Europe to disconnect from the electricity grid and provide itself with the energy required for its entire operation.
