According to official announcements from tourism authorities and operators of various attractions in Greece, several sites, most notably the Acropolis, will be closed during the day out of concern for the safety of tourists. The Acropolis is expected to be closed today between 12:00 and 17:00, with entry allowed before and after these hours.
The Acropolis in Athens. Photo: Amit CotlerThe extreme weather is also affecting other regions of the country. Parts of Crete are expected to reach 35 degrees at noon today, and Thessaloniki is expected to reach 33 degrees. Rhodes and Santorini are expected to reach 32 degrees.
The weather warning known as the "yellow warning" will last until 8:00 PM tonight, while some relief in the heat is expected from tomorrow, although not very significant.
