Boeing 777X. Photo: Boeing Boeing continues to advance the development program for the 777X aircraft, reaching a new and significant milestone by flying five 777-9 test aircraft within 24 hours.
As part of the flight test campaign, which lasted two days, the company's teams completed six test flights, accumulated approximately 18 hours of flight time, and performed a series of tests on the aircraft's systems, engines, cabin, and other systems, alongside ground tests.
Boeing noted that, during the operation, a number of important goals were achieved in the aircraft certification process, including the milestone of a maiden flight as part of the testing program.
The 777-9, the largest model in the 777X family, is designed for long-haul airlines and offers higher capacity, improved fuel efficiency and advanced technologies compared to the current generation of 777s.
The comprehensive testing program is part of the final steps toward the aircraft's entry into commercial service, as Boeing continues to expand the scope of testing with the aim of completing the certification process and delivering the aircraft to the first customers.
The Boeing 777-9 , the largest model in the 777X family , is considered one of the world's most advanced passenger aircraft and the largest twin-engine aircraft ever built. It was developed as a replacement for the 777-300ER, one of Boeing's most successful aircraft, and is designed to offer a combination of high capacity, long range and improved operational efficiency.
The aircraft is equipped with GE9X engines , the largest and most advanced jet engines ever produced for a passenger aircraft, and innovative wings with folding wingtips, a unique engineering solution that allows the aircraft to enjoy a large wingspan during flight, but adapt itself to existing airport boarding gates during ground transportation.
The 777-9 offers significant improvements in fuel efficiency and emissions reductions over the previous generation of 777 aircraft, along with a new cabin that includes larger windows, advanced lighting, higher ceilings, improved humidity and more comfortable air pressure, an upgrade designed to make even long flights more pleasant.
Interest in the aircraft is already high among the world's largest airlines. Customers who have ordered the 777X include Emirates, Qatar Airways, Lufthansa, ANA, Singapore Airlines, British Airways and Etihad Airways, with Emirates being the model's largest customer and expected to be among the first to operate it once certification is complete.
