Travelers heading to Rome this August are being advised to allow extra time for their journeys after Aeroporti di Roma today, July 31, 2026, announced that regional rail services to and from Fiumicino Airport could be affected by infrastructure works throughout the month.

According to information provided by Trenitalia, delays and cancellations are expected between August 1 and August 31 as construction continues on the new Pigneto station, one of the capital's major rail infrastructure projects.

The disruption affects regional rail connections serving Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport, Italy's busiest airport and a key gateway for millions of international visitors each year. Passengers planning to use train services are encouraged to check the latest travel updates before departing for the airport.

August traditionally sees a surge in both domestic and international travel as Italians take their summer holidays and tourists flock to destinations across the country.

Travelers affected by the disruptions may wish to consider alternative transportation options, including airport buses, taxis, or private transfers, particularly when traveling during peak hours or for early morning and late evening flights.

The temporary disruptions come as Rome continues to invest heavily in transportation infrastructure ahead of future increases in visitor numbers, with projects aimed at improving mobility across the Italian capital and strengthening links to its main international airport.
